For $2.50, you can take EMTA buses wherever you need to go... for the entire day.

Be sure to tell the driver you want this at the time you board the bus.

Take the shuttle from 12th & Lincoln, or Blasco/Intermodal Center. They run every few minutes during the events, and it is free!

ERIE METROPOLITAN TRANSIT AUTHORITY (EMTA)
PUBLIC MEETING NOTIFICATION

Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority will hold public meetings on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 and again two weeks later on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 to obtain feedback from EMTA’s riders and residents of Erie County on a proposed fare increase tentatively scheduled for fall 2014.
Two meetings will be held on July 15th at the Erie Intermodal Transportation Center at 208 East Bayfront Parkway, one from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and another from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Two more meetings will be held on July 29th at the Edinboro Borough Building in Council Chambers located at 124 Meadville Street in Edinboro, one from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and another from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
EMTA is considering a fare increase to offset expenses and keep pace with inflation, and is seeking comments from the public.

Greyhound fare changes

The other day I was at a Greyhound station and asked the price for a ticket to a nearby town.
"What day is this?" he asked.
I told him I didn't have a day in mind I just wanted to know the fare for now.
He said things have changed, and now it all depends on the day(s) you will be travelling.
I asked if this was the arrangement where you reserve your ticket ahead of time. He said no, this just started a couple weeks ago.
He told me a short trip like I was asking about (50 miles) wouldn't have a big difference from day to day, but if I wanted to go to some place like Phoenix it could make a difference of $40.
I said that must be annoying when the customer doesn't understand what is going on. He just shook his head and sounded a little frustrated.
I asked if it was on the website.He said, "Should be."
It's not. At least not in any form I can recognize.
Maybe when you read this it will be, but right now, it is not.
But at least now you know.

July 15-19 - 69th Annual North East Fireman's Cherry Festival Gibson Park (right downtown). County route  16.  

Aug 2-3 Erie Art Museum Blues and Jazz Fest Frontier Park Erie PA. Route 22/31/32 or Route 30.  Sunday: 31 (26/31) and 30. And probably the shuttle (details later)

Aug 8-10  St Paul's Italian Festival 1617 Walnut, Erie. Route 29 all days. On Friday evening, M4 will get you there but stops running after that. Aug 22-24 - Zabawa Polish Summer Festival  23rd and Reed, Erie PA.   Bus Routes: Friday and Saturday" 26 and 25 Sunday: 26/31

Take Route 16 to North East PA.
The North East Chamber of Commerce, 17 E. Main can offer you maps and help you with any info. Open during normal working hours, walk right in!

Transit Union calls for quick passage of GROW AMERICA Act

Investment in public transit critical – enhances mobility for all

WASHINGTON, DC:  Larry Hanley, international president of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), released the following statement in response to the submission to Congress of President Obama’s multi-year surface transportation reauthorization proposal – the Generating Renewal, Opportunity, and Work with Accelerated Mobility, Efficiency, and Rebuilding of Infrastructure and Communities throughout America (GROW AMERICA) Act.

“The Amalgamated Transit Union urges Congress to pass President Obama’s proposed transportation reauthorization bill – the GROW AMERICA Act – as soon as possible to address the mounting public transit crisis threatening the economic future of our country.

“Our nation needs a comprehensive transportation bill that sets forth a major urban agenda to address our exploding urban populations, worsening traffic jams, young people forgoing cars, and stressed public transit systems.

“The president’s proposal to invest $72 billion in transit systems and expanded transportation options sends a clear message to Congress that public transit matters to the American people.  We need to invest in smart public transit initiatives to prevent America from falling behind our global competitors, and keep our cities and towns running. Public transit when done well has been and continues to be a great ladder of opportunity for all.

“There are idle buses, bus stops without service and people who need to get to and from their job.  The current infrastructure is already there. There is no shovel required to improve public transit.

“Not only does public transit provide reliable mobility for everyone for years to come, it creates good jobs and delivers customers to businesses. For every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 in economic returns is generated. It helps fight pollution and traffic. More people riding buses mean fewer cars on the road and less emissions. Buses emit 80 percent less carbon monoxide than a car.

“We need Congress to start thinking big when it comes to public transit and pass the GROW America Act, which will enhance mobility for all of us.”

Sledding by bus

You can take the EMTA bus to some great sledding this time of year. The 31/32 will take you to Frontier Park (Lake Erie Arboretum) and Westlake Middle School, both fun sledding spots.
The Route 30 comes pretty close, with a stop at 10th &Weschler.
I spoke to an EMTA dispatcher about taking sleds on the bus. She said the plastic ones and roll-ups are fine. Regular sleds with blades “should be in something.” I would recommend a box. She said as long as you aren’t blocking the way there shouldn’t be a problem.
